Companies require to understand the economic value of its shareholders’ interest in a business. Mosaic Global assists in determining valuation of a business or parts thereof, which is then used by buyers/sellers to determine the price at which they are willing to buy or sell the business. In addition to estimating the selling price of a business, the same valuation tools are often used to resolve disputes related to estate and business succession, to establish a formula for estimating the value of partners’ ownership interest for buy-sell agreements, and many other business and legal purposes. We use the asset-based, income-approach, or market-approach to value businesses.

Asset-based Approach

A business is often viewed as a sum of its parts. In this approach, a business is seen from a balance sheet perspective, which determines the net cash value that would be received if all assets were sold and liabilities paid off.

Earnings or Income Approach

This approach is usually the most widely-used and is applied for on-going profitable businesses, where the business is valued based on historical and future earnings and cash-flow potential, and associated risks.

Market Approach

This approach is more suited to situations where there are multiple buyers or sellers in a market for a particular company/division. The market approach would typically value a business based on market conditions and of comparable businesses in the industry/market.
